->> @Armando

You raise good questions. I stayed out of this discussion for the first thread, but read every comment.

I'll answer some of the questions from my perspective.

I don't think it's a money thing. My issue is one of principle. Yeah $16K would be a decent amount to help out, but it's more than that.

Nature workshops or sports workshops like SSA, are not in the middle of a life or death crisis. If he really wants people to learn how to cover disasters better, a hands-on workshop is not the way. I couldn't fathom him holding a session on the streets while molitov cocktails are flying by. And who was his intended audience? Joe Dad, weekend shooter who appreciates the NYT photo blog? No way.

In a previous thread, a question arose on how to prepare for Haiti and Mr. Liddy chimed in with his vast experience in Afghanistan and other overseas assignments. If I was a photog covering something like this, I would do my homework prior to. Read blogs and stories from people who have covered it in the past.

I do my job as a PJ, because I think it's very important and I want to tell stories of real people in hopes of it helping someone else better their lives or the lives of people around them. It's definitely not the paycheck that moves me to do my work.

I haven't covered nearly anything close to this level, but I have covered gang homicides where the victim was mistaken (on multiple accounts) for a rival gang member and I can't even imagine someone holding a workshop on how to best cover the situation while a mom is bawling her eyes out over her son who was a volunteer at the Aquarium and gunned down earlier that day.

Now I don't know the guy personally, but I'd be interested to hear his motives in all of this.

Regards,

~ nic

->> "Drop-in journalism", that's a good one Dave. I've never heard of this guy until these threads and am quite disgusted at him offering this "workshop."

I like how he posts on his lightstalkers account, " I have never gone to a workshop myself, " , likes he's too good to go to someone else's workshop. What an arrogant little ........

Who uses this guy and why? He reminds me of an ambulance chasing lawyer.

I know this thread isn't about his merits as a photographer, but I looked at his stuff and "bleh", cliche, burn in the corners, over-toned and over-processed.

And the first thing in his lightstalker post "First of all, let me say what a pleasure it is to piss all of you off…again"

He gives real journalist and photojournalist a bad name. That is what I'm most pissed about.
