->> Hello everyone. Here is an update on the Upper Deck vs. MLB story from today's Los Angeles Times. This piece has many more details than the wire story from a few days ago:
Major League Baseball accuses Upper Deck of trademark infringement

->> Wow! I guess that answers the question whether or not The Deck will be sending photographers to spring training... Perhaps a blessing in disguise for those who would have "worked for free" anyway...
If The Deck owes you money, gang, you'd better be REAL forceful, fly to Carlsbad and show up at the door or do what ever it takes to get in line and get paid because the writing's on the wall... if it isn't a done deal already...
Like Brad mentioned earlier, this all unfolded (from a photographers standpoint) just like it did at Fleer a few years ago...of course Fleer's situation didn't have any of the drama this has! I hope others take heed from a business perspective in general and pay attention to the following: if things start to smell, payments become late, you become a "bank" for the company by fronting large sums of expense money, phone calls aren't returned and email's don't get replied to... GET PAID then GET OUT before it's too late...
...I feel bad for my friends left holding the bag... |
