Something aside from photoshop for RAW files?

->> Hello all,

I'm looking for a little advice here. I recently picked up a Nikon D300s and I have the Adobe Creative Suite 3 on both my personal and work computers. From what I have found, there is no Camera Raw update compatible with with CS3 that will handle the D300s NEF files.

I just recently purchased creative suite 3 and I'm hoping not to upgrade to CS4 just yet so I was wondering how you handle raw files minus the latest Camera raw plugin.

I've heard good things about both lightroom and aperture, but I've never used either. Right now my workflow is view/edit with photo mechanic and then open/tone in photoshop.

thanks

James

I have found that NX (NX2 now) and it's "Saved Settings"Feature is great, especially when I'm shooting Product in the studio, I can save a set of settings and apply them to a continuing Shoot, over and over again!!

->> You can convert the files to DNG using Adobe DNG converter (free download) and open them in photoshop that way if you want to keep your current workflow without upgrading.

->> If you decide to go the DNG route, consider also getting Downloader Pro:
http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm

Downloader Pro uses Adobe's DNG converter to convert RAW files, but it also has some of the tools that Photo Mechanic has (download RAW and jpg files to different directories, renaming, metadata templates) so that can take some of the sting out of having to add another step to your workflow.
