->> Sorry to be a bit off topic here, but does anyone else find it a bit humorous while looking at all the MKIII for sale ads? Just what 2 months ago give or take this was everyone's favorite thing to complain about. My MKIII can't focus, it can't be relied on, I have to switch to Nikon, I hate Canon...whatever the malady of the day.
So tell me this...why is every ad for a MKIII highlighting "never had a problem", "great camera", "hate to sell", "never had an issue but sent it to Canon anyway", "owned and operated by a little old lady from Pasadena, no problems"
Maybe I'm the only one who sees this. Just kind of funny to me I suppose, and I do realize that there are lots of good copies out there...despite my never seeing one. sorry to take up space here with meaningless thoughts.

| ->> Does an Apple really do that much more for a high school student than a PC? No, but they'll pay $2K more for it. I ended up with a 7D for this reason. I know it's the 1 series (and I was coming from the original 1D) but it just seemed hard to pay roughly the same amount of money for "superior 1-series technology" that didn't work. |

| ->> I must admit I have been thinking the same thing myself! Canon should take back every single Mark III and give the owner a $2000 credit. That's the only fair solution. |

->> Nick, now that is some honest advertising! Since it's a broken unit that clearly sucks I'm sure the pricing will accurately reflect that. :)
(and a note to all...speaking of "sucks", sorry for the typo's and missing punctuation in my original post.) |

->> I was looking at one for sale on the FM board, the seller was saying what a great camera it was and no focus issues.I looked at his profile and noticed he listed his Canon gear.At the bottom he listed: Nikon: none for now (but if the MK lV doesn't pan out!!!)
Didn't make me feel very comfortable with his description. |

->> Michael, sorta like a guy I knew that used to repair cameras.
When asked about a warranty, the reply was "10 years or the first roll of film, whichever came first..."
Nick, have you ever considered therapy so you can share how you really feel?

->> Yeah I love how so many were ready to jump the band wagon and produce the hate for Canon...
While I've never realy voiced my concerns one way or the other... I've had three MK III bodies... never had a problem with them, Still have no problem with them...
Not getting rid of them either...
That being said... I'll be getting a couple of MK IV bodies as soon as they are more readly available...
But, I'll still keep at least two of the MK III bodies... |

| ->> I've actually been looking at the MKIIIs for a while now as I have been thinking about picking one up. Every time one was listed the first thing I did was check the forums for any posts with complaints from the owners. Surprisingly none of the ones I looked at had owners who've complained. I'm no longer looking though. I have to come up with 10 grand to repair my roof. :-( |

| ->> Yes, I've been using my mkIII very happily for years. In reality if you're buying from any respectable sports photographer they should have galleries of photos from games to share with you. No need to take their word for how well it does per se. Even though I'm happy, it would be nice to have even better 6400 performance (since I shoot a lot of HS) and even though I didn't have the focus issues it seems like the mkIV is even better. So who wouldn't want that? But that doesn't mean I'll upgrade. It's still $2700-3000 to upgrade and I'm doing less work than I used to so the shutter isn't getting pounded. |

->> I used my two MKIII's almost daily for the two years since they came out. Can't say I really had a major problem. Sure, some shots from a burst of say a dozen at 10fps might be a bif off-focus but as I'd come from Nikon (D2X, D200 etc) and the AF on them was about the same. I was very happy with 7 keepers out of 10 when all I really needed was 1. Of course if the off-focus shot was one I would have preferred to keep then I would be annoyed.
For the last week I've been shooting with a MKIV and a MKIII and the only difference I see (apart from better high-ISO from MKIV) is a couple of extra keepers from a burst. For me personally the 1DIII was not the disaster I was expecting and the upside is that they can be bought cheaply even in camera shops, The shop I frequent has a shelf (a very long one) full of traded MKIIIs at less than half retail price. Of course none of them had an AF problem either. ;) |

->> John -- it's true that you can see all shots that turned out. Not sure you'll see the ones that didn't.
I'm on my third set of Mark III's BTW and am looking forward to better days ahead with the Mark IV. |
