Camera for live webcast?

->> Sorry if I've missed this on the message boards, but I was wondering if many people out there have experience shooting for a live webcast.

Not sure how many people can weigh in on the topic, but I'm hoping someone can tell me what exactly is needed to do a live webcast.

IE - Camera, cables, other equipment, etc.

As a secondary question - Does anyone know if I could use a Canon XH-A1s as the camera for the broadcast?

Thanks in advance,

-Patrick

I am currently working out a plan to get started doing something like this but have not actually done it yet so others will probably have better suggestions.

The XH-A1 will work just fine assuming you can keep the camera within range for your firewire connection to the computer. There are several ways to extend the reach of the firewire cable but all are somewhat costly.

Hope that is at least somewhat helpful.

I used to use a Snappy, and have since used its successor the Dazzle USB 2.0 device to get video into my PC. It also lets you use any video source with RCA output jacks (e.g. from a P&S camera, virtually any video camera, a DVD player, etc.) I used it to record some video to my hard drive and as a webcam. I can't think if any reason it wouldn't work with an XH-A1s in your situation.

->> I've used livestream with our Sony Z1U connected to a laptop via Firewire and it worked like a charm. The only limitation was the upstream bandwidth. My Verizon broadband card didn't supply a good enough connection, so I had to have a wired Ethernet connection. I believe livestream has a tool with which you can test your upstream bandwidth to see if you've got enough.
