How do I use Photo Mechanic to check actuations?

->> I am pretty sure this has been detailed on the M.B. before. Sorry to repeat, but I searched "+photo +mechanic +actuations" and found many references to it, but no recipe.

Where can I find it or is it a functionality I have to switch on somehow?

Thanks.

->> While in the Captions, Keywords or other area, click on the "Variables" button on the bottom, then click on "actuations" - or just type {actuations}. Save and then go back to it.

Does not work with mkIII, 5D, 7D, 50D in my experience.

->> Put the variable {act} or {actuations} in the caption and when evaluated it will show the number.

->> Matt,

You can also do this: Edit> Settings> Set Info Text and select the "actuations" variable. Don't forget to type in some form of label before the variable so you'll be able to tell what number goes with this variable.

Then the actuations will appear in the panel when you bring up "Restore Panes"

Be advised editing an image in PhotoShop (or presumably any photo editor) seems to wipe this field clean, and that the number that appears may or may not be the actual actuation count. In my experience, it's close.

->> I saw this mentioned in another thread and wondered about
it. I'm looking at the demo of Photo Mechanic to use to
view and cull out photos before I import them into LR. LR
is just way too slow (at least on my computer) compared to
the likes of PM or Breezebrowser. I wonder why this variable
isn't set up to be the default. Kind of nice to know IMO.

Thanks for the heads up.

->> When you use windows to download/rotate your images it strips the data, or least did for me until copying directly from the card. Though now a bit curious, mine just came up as 651 when I shot 20 teams the day before, over 4,000 images - so it's not coming up right.

->> Thanks for the info... It worked fine for me. I also downloaded a copy of Exif Reader and the counts matched exactly so I am confident either one is accurate.
