->> Long story but I just got turned on to powerex chargers and batteries. The NH C9000 conditions, discharges, recharges, monitors re-condition etc etc. I've just redone a bunch of my old ones and results are fantastic. Charger and 8 of their 2700 mah for $80 which for me is a great deal.
Worth a look methinks. mahaenergy.com

->> I've been looking for a better set of rechargeable batteries and this looks like it might be the ticket. One question, how well does one manufacturer's rechargeable batteries work with another manufacturers charger?

->> So far I'm loving the Sanyos.
I replaced all my Powerex 2700 mAH batteries with the 2000 mAH Sanyos about a month ago. I was originally concerned about going from 2700 to 2000, but so far that has not been a problem.
What was a problem with the Powerex's was that they weren't holding a charge and I'd have to replace batteries after almost every assignment. And yes, I reconditioned them when appropriate.
Also, the MAHA chargers rock (and so do La Crosse chargers). Expensive, but worth it.
I get my stuff from http://www.thomasdistributing.com |

->> The MAHA batteries rock. I've got some that are 3 years old and still perform like new. I use a Quest charger that has seperate IC circuits for each battery it charges so they all get topped off. I have some Quest batteries too. They are nice, but the MAHA's beat them out on number of flashes per charge.
I have a C9000, but it doesn't seem to perform as well as the Quest. It has lots of settings and I've read the book 4 times, still the batteries don't seem to charge completely. I've tried several of the different methods. |

->> Yesterday I bought 3 four-packs of house brand 2400mAH rechargeables from CVS drug store for $7.99 per pack and I had a $7.00 off coupon as well.
I put them into my chargers overnight and metered them this morning and this afternoon, all took a charge, looks like a fair deal. |

->> I also like the eneloops from Sanyo, i have about 4-5 sets of them.
It seems that they're never last. |

->> I've heard the Eneloops have a recycle time about half as long as most other rechargeables, can anyone confirm this? I'd deal with the lower mAh if the recycle is shorter.
I've been using the typical Duracell 2450mah batteries, and they're starting to crap out after 8 months of use. Looking into the Eneloops. |

->> Every couple of months there's a long parade of photographers loving Mahas here on the forum.
Eneloops are nice, too...got a couple of sets I toss into a bag I use for specific assignments that are flash-intensive but infrequent, never have to worry about having charged batteries. Duracell's new "pre-charged" NiMH (similar chemistry) batteries are nice too. Maha's "Immedion" batteries are another story. My Maha 9000 charger doesn't even recognize them. Gotta charge them in my older 401 charger.
Steve, tried a set of those CVS batteries and they only lasted a few months. Better than Delkins I tried which were pretty much useless right out of the package (3 of 8 were dead from the start, others lasted a couple of months).
Energizers aren't bad either, and their 15-minute charger is the bomb for emergency use. |

| ->> I love my Eneloops. They do not self discharge like most of the other NiMh batteries on the market. Recharge them in a quality charger like a Maha and they should last for years. Do not buy a cheap 15 minute charger. These will cook the batteries and shorten their lives. |

->> The only people i've ever known that knocked powerex's simply didnt understand that the batteries (all brands of nimh) will by nature lose a charge fairly rapidly once charged. So...if you simply charge them up the night before, they are very very tough to match. But if you let them sit....even for a week then yes they (none of them) can hold the charge.
Next up are the imedion/eneloop (same tech) that will hold a charge for months on a shelf, but have a lower mah rating...these are terrific for use in PW's for example...or remotes...But dont have the lasting power under use like the powerex's do...
Lastly...the new NiZn's listed above are incredibly fast recyclye times...1.2seconds for a full dump on 580exII over and over and over....till you kill your flash if your not careful...but seriously these are lighting fast. Again, the trade off is that the total number of flashes is lower than powerex's.
Bottom line....choose your poison. Which is most imprtant to the way you shoot...recycle time? NiZn's are tops..
Shelf life? eneloops/imedions...flash lasting throughout an event...powerex's are the best.
horses for courses. Just pick your course and select the battery that fits each niche. |
