Western Digital My Book Studio Ed. II Dual-drive opinions

->> Anyone use the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II Dual-drive Storage System with RAID 2 TB, Quad Interface?

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=410

I have a friend who is considering purchasing this hard drive but she is also considering a 4TB studio all in one. I suggested an OWC hard drive, but she likes WD. WD has never let her down before. Anybody have experience with this hard drive? I saw a thread on SS and suggested this one from OWC:

I also pointed her in the direction of this thread:

BTW she has a Mac, but I don't know what kind of Mac. She is a freelance photographer and shoots lots and lots of photos.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

->> I used a MyBook as a RAID in 2007, it was a dual 500GB. I replaced it with an OWC RAID enclosure less than a year after purchase, the WD MyBook had frequent problems with writing corrupted data. About 1% of the files I would copy to it would appear fine in browsers, but when opened would have half corrupted. Never found the source the problem, but I lost my faith in the unit, and replaced it. I was very happy with the OWC until I outgrew its capacity and went for a Drobo. Currently using the Drobo.

->> Note:
The WD Mybook is listing total data storage (divide by 2 for RAID). The OWC is listing usable space. So the prices are very similar.

Both appear to be software RAID, which will be about half as fast as a hardware RAID solution.

I am of course assuming she's going to use RAID to mirror the data. If not... It doesn't really matter which one she uses. All hard drives turn into bricks sooner or later.

->> I had a very bad experience with Western Digitial and will not buy them again (two drive failures in 6 months with a dual disk RAID like the ones in question). OWC has a very good reputation, and I've been very happy with my LaCie 2Big Quadra in a RAID 1 configuration.

->> OK, it looks like my friend is warming up to the idea of OWC. My friend talked to a rep at OWC and the rep suggested these two:

1) A NewerTech Voyager hard drive dock.

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/NewerTech/Voyager/Hard_Drive_Dock

and the rep also recommended this one.

2) OWC Mercury Elite-Al Pro performance RAID 0

Thanks in advance if you have had experience with either one of these systems.
