II Dual-drive opinions Rodrigo Pena, Photographer Beaumont | CA | USA | Posted: 10:06 AM on 01.19.10 ->> Anyone use the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II Dual-drive Storage System with RAID 2 TB, Quad Interface? http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=410 I have a friend who is considering purchasing this hard drive but she is also considering a 4TB studio all in one. I suggested an OWC hard drive, but she likes WD. WD has never let her down before. Anybody have experience with this hard drive? I replaced it with an OWC RAID enclosure less than a year after purchase, the WD MyBook had frequent problems with writing corrupted data. About 1% of the files I would copy to it would appear fine in browsers, but when opened would have half corrupted. Never found the source the problem, but I lost my faith in the unit, and replaced it. I was very happy with the OWC until I outgrew its capacity and went for a Drobo. The OWC is listing usable space. So the prices are very similar. Both appear to be software RAID, which will be about half as fast as a hardware RAID solution. I am of course assuming she's going to use RAID to mirror the data. If not... It doesn't really matter which one she uses.
