Print Auction for Haiti victims... anyone want to help?
Patrick Murphy-Racey, Photographer

->> I'm going to put together some of my best Tennessee football images from the years I've covered them and will auction them off to benefit the Haiti victims of the earthquake. I'm looking for prints from my fellow shooters to help raise money. Sometimes we get a bad rap for being vultures on big stories and I'd like to do something to combat that. Plus, we should all be helping our brothers and sisters down there, for we are one nation of humanity. If you'd like to participate, let me know. If you know photogs with amazing images that would sell well, please also let me know.

I've been doing mission work in Haiti's central plateau since Jan. of 2004. We have always worked very closely with Partners in Health (known as Zamne Lasante in Haiti). they are very much involved in the thick of providing medical care to the injured. this is the organization founded by Dr. Paul Farmer from Harvard. To read more about PIH and their good work in Haiti, please visit www.pih.org.

Let me know what you have. I think the easiest way to deal with this is to have everything sent electronically and I will pay for the prints to be made myself as part of the donation (in case my own images don't sell). I'm thinking to keep mailing costs down to just do 300 dpi 8x10's for now. I'm issuing a special challenge to my friends who shoot football and hoops in the SEC-- you guys better send me your best stuff!!!

send your images to pat@pmrphoto.com

I promise they will only be used to benefit Haiti, and never anything else--my word.

->> Patrick,
I'm in, do you just want SEC FB/BBK? Let me know and I'll send you a few. That's so kind of you to pay for the prints.

Will this be an online auction? Let me know when you have the details and I will help you promote it around Nashville.

->> Hey Patrick...I'm not trying to put a downer on this worthy cause, but have you checked with the SEC on the legal issues with doing this? Their policies are so stringent now against selling and promoting work with their product. I think I would get an opinion from them before you go any further with this, just to cover your behind.

Just a thought.

Talk about a PR debacle! Can you imagine the stories:
"SEC Pulls Plug on Haiti Orphans"

Oh yeah.

I agree, but I would still run it by them first. They might not stop any auctions, etc but they might stop Patrick when he asks for his credential next year.
