I'm in a very specialized area but it seems to overlap into others.

->> I'd like to maybe read some testimonials from designers, directors and actors who would praise your work ethic and methodology. This would perhaps help set you appart or define what makes you invaluable. Maybe some comments about problem solving that you've done on set, where you've been an asset and not just paid help.
While your photos show a lot of experience there seems to be a lot of missing narrative about your fantastic career that you should write up. People want to read about the time your cameras failed while photographing in a freezing ice storm while on set. I'm just making this up, but I imagine you have such stories to tell.
Try to get as authentic on your website as possible about your experiences because I think that's what will make you unique as a movie photographer. Your photos are fantastic, but I don't feel anything from them because there is no back story. |

->> Mark...Thanks, that's why you're an editor and I'm not. I changed it right away.
Darren...Thanks for the input but my focus on this site is for the producers, studio photo dept, photo editors etc. To be honest, they couldn't care less about how I got the shot, how the actor didn't want to do it ( trust me - more than a few of those ), or the brutal conditions - all they want to see is if I got a pic that will work for them.
Case in point - the shot on the title page of the incredible actress Caroline Dhavernas. We are shooting nights - it's around 3 am, we have rain towers set up that drop 1500 gallons per minute, the temperature is about 40f, and we are doing a rain test....Caroline is cold, wet and very tired but I see a chance for a set up - a staged shot ( I'm not a PJ so I'm allowed to do that when ever I can). I ask her to walk into the rain for 30 seconds. She is such a trooper, such a pro and by this time - 7 weeks into the movie she trusts me when I ask for the occasional set up. I use existing light plus a bit of additional fill to open up the dark side of her face and add a bit of an eye light, slow shutter so the rain "streaks" and have her there for less than the 30 seconds I asked her for. I'm in the rain too, (thank you KATA rain protection), I squeeze off about 10 frames and then move on to the next set up. Later that morning I do the ingest/edit and see the one frame that turned out pretty good.
Anyway, the point of this long ramble is that the only comment from the PR person was that it was too bad I didn't have more background in the shot. Couldn't care less about what I went through. So.....that's why my site is about the images not how I got them.
More than happy to talk, email one on one to other shooters about how or why I do what I do but the website is directed at the people that hire me.

->> Chris,
Do you want people to be able to download images? You have a download button. It works really well, I now have an image from Eight Below on my laptop. |
