->> Our once thriving staff of 16 shooters just a couple years ago is now down to just 7. I consider myself lucky to have survived the cuts. I know the multimedia experience I have been learning was a contributing factor in my job staying put. I've learned shooting video and production, and have contributed to the blogs at our shop. I was told these were the things lacking in the photogs that were let go.
In this business you either have to keep learning and trying new things, or be shown the door. |

->> Also there were an additional 11 in the newsroom...reporters and copy editors, which contributed to the total of 65 in the newspaper total on Friday who were shown the door.:(
This sucks. |

->> It does T.J. and I, still, feel your pain after out cuts in December.
If it is of any condolence, most of our newsroom that was shown the door is happier now. With the hours, demands and pay, sometimes it seems like journalism is a job for masochists.
Continue to evolve, it has served you well keeping your job and it will serve you well as journalist if you can keep up with news delivery systems. Keep finding a way to tell your story. |
