| ->> Yeah I saw this on the news last night as well. You would think the company's advertising department would know better. Shameful. |

->> Could be a very smart, calculated move. They could be gambling on the idea that the White House probably won't sue them as long as the billboard comes down quickly. Yet the combination of a few days in Times Square plus a worldwide story in the media makes for a very successful advertisement.
It's the whole "easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission" philosophy, quite prevalent in many industries. |

->> Dave E - You don't REALLY think Obama "endorsed" Lopez, do you? That was obviously lifted from some unrelated footage.
PS Conan O'Brien doesn't REALLY talk to celebrities on that big monitor behind his desk. Those are fake too.
All in fun... ;)
And...who's going to sue? That's just silly. Sure, it was a PR stunt, but as a public official - THE most public official on the planet - people can, and will, use Obama's image for almost anything. And there's not a lot he can do about it except "express outrage."
What's more shameful to me are the various online ads that say "Obama says..." being used to sell everything from online degrees to mortgage refinancing. I even saw one the other day suggesting Obama wants you to switch car insurance based on some public pronouncement or other.
And do I need even mention the completely unbelievable "Chia Obama"???? Come on, someone say you can't believe Obama approved that one...come on, say it... |

| ->> Dave - that's one pathetic attempt by the blogger to make something out of nothing - it was banter on a TV show! Obama wasn't doing commercials, appearing in ads, etc. in promotion - it was joking around with a comedian! Man I hope that's sarcasm. There's a HUGE difference between that and using an image in an advertisement. |

| ->> OK, I'll correct myself - I had seen the Lopez spot on TV and thought it looked fake. After seeing the clip above from "The View" (which I am proud to say I generally avoid in all circumstances), I guess it wasn't. Still doesn't change the rest of what I said. :) |

| ->> In April of last year, Obama's approval rating was 61%. Today it was clocked at 50%. Why would anyone think an endorsement by him would do any good when half the populace doesn't think he's dong a good job. |

->> If you read the NY Times story from a couple days ago you'll see the company is good at doing controversial things to get mentions in the press to get free advertising and they are probably hoping for a lot of uproar so their name gets out there.
It's not just Obama, but pretty much every presidential administration has objected to any kind of use of the president's image in appearing to promote something, especially commercial products. |

| ->> Alan - Dubya won a second term in office with a rating of 52% and ended with a rating of 30%. 50% isn't bad considering the truly unpopular things this country will have to go through to get righted again. |
