I really do not need a tripod thats super light. Whats a good model that will support that weight.

Thanks

There is at least one large camera store in Philly that will probably have a selection of legs and heads on display. I'd go there and test drive a few combos.
Personally, I've got a set of Bogen 3021 legs, with a 3047 head. The legs are fine, but I'd never go for the head again if given the option. Too much wobble, but as someone said YMMV...

->> The wimberly-style heads will go a long way into keeping it stable; normally anything over a 70-200 becomes really unstable on top of a normal head.

You also might try a fluid head if you need to save some cash -

The legs are pretty generic if you aren't looking to save weight; as long as you don't exceed the weight limit you're fine.

This is a cheaper version of the wimberly:

Googling "gimbal head" will bring you a bunch of results - just make sure it's spec'd for long telephotos (some are for telephoto zooms and won't hold enough weight)

Wimberly's sidekick, if you already have a ball head with an arca-swiss type plate:

Check out The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr. (it's an idenpendant store - not part of the chain) They should be able to help you - I was in there this week and they had a good stock of tripods in.

->> Jonathan,

Check out Allen's Camera in Levittown, PA. They sell a full stock of Gitzo, Manfrotto/Bogen, Induro, and Wimberley Heads. They have a knowledgable staff and prices that are very competitive with the big NY stores.

Also, they are about 20 minutes north of Philly off I-95. Best shop in town, hands down.

That's a contradiction in terms. A ball head without a sidekick or something of that sort will by nature not support a heavy lens...

You're welcome to drop a bunch of cash to find this out though.
