->> I'm with Dave. Instead of being Mr. Nice Guy and reasonable, you call the sheriff and have them send a deputy out. It will take about 30 seconds for the deputy to figure out the drill.
Being reasonable and shooting a video and then posting it on YouTube just reinforces that the guy was willing to be the victim.
They sorta of threatened him. That's all he needed to phone in and get help. When your stick isn't big enough, you get a bigger stick. That's LE. Otherwise, you're almost as guilty as the two clowns in the video. |

->> Michael,
I thought the same thing when I first watched it but after reading the long sting of comments with the video, evidently there is some sort of unwritten code among the surfers about turf, protecting special surf spots, rights of locals, etc. that might have something to do with it since the guy who posted the video is local to the area.
I was evidently not stoned enough to understand all of it so reverted back to my original thought of kick the scrawny one as hard as I possibly could in the small of the back, bash the other dude in the face with my monopod then help myself to his food while I finished shooting. |

->> Ahh Surf Turf Battles.
Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.
Surfers are very protective of their 'turf.' I could be one of the best surfers from Texas (I'm not - I really suck), but if I went to California to surf in one of the best surf spots like this photographer was shooting, the surfers would force me off waves, ride into me, and pretty much beat the hell out of me, because I would be surfing on their turf without their permission. Then when I got back to my vehicle, it would beat beat to hell, windows smashed, the whole nine yards. They are very protective and all around assholes.
But what they hate even more, is photographers going to out of the way surfing hot spots, taking pictures, then selling those pictures to magazines and posting them on the internet. Because a place just for locals like that will get some publicity, then people will come from all over and it will be too crowded.
But usually the locals will force out the photographers. But the two idiots getting in the way of the photographer weren't locals, and even by the crazy local surfer "laws" they didn't really have a right to be doing that. The photographer was a local, so the locals weren't bothering him at all. But the two wannabe locals wanted to act all tough. |

Seriously though this is ridiculous ... I would be really interested to know what the Parks service had to say about this and the alcohol use since its their responsibility to police the park. |

->> Yeah, I got it the first time. My point was not to post the video - that just rewards the behavior. Call the authorities. Let them pull driver's licenses, ask the "Are there any drugs in your vehicle? No? Then you won't mind if I search it, correct?" question.
By the time the cops finishes with these kinds of clowns, you're at home editing. That's assuming there are no drugs. What do you think the chances of that are?
You see, I'm really a assh*le when it comes to these types of clowns. No need to threaten them with a monopod, just call the cops.
Thomas, you got the irony that the desire for a lack of publicity was to prevent the clowns that showed up anyway, didn't you?

| ->> HA HA. I didn't even understand the video until I read the threads here.I thought he was shooting some pro surfers and the stoners were trying to block his shots. I kept looking in the background of the video but I couldn't see any. I thought the Point Break tough guy surfer attitude/turf wars was all fabricated. It's really funny that they think they own the ocean and its some kind of undiscovered country. |

| ->> The surfing culture is very unique. If you think this is bad, you should try to actually surf with these same kooks in the water. Lots of words are exchanged and fights after cutting each other off in the middle of a wave. I do not surf anymore but live in Surf City, am friends with many surfers and photograph them often. Not all of them do drugs. Many Christian Surfer groups like this one who have open arms and want to share the wonders of this beautiful sport. http://www.christiansurfersnb.org |
