Nikon 28-70 2.8 focus problems

->> My Nikon 28-70 will focus on close up objects, but when I try to focus on a object further away, the auto focus does not even kick in. This happens in continuous and single focus and at every focal length.
I have cleaned all the contacts points, checked all my camera setting and am still facing this problem.
Any help would be great. |

->> Mine had a similar problem except on the short end. Apparently the AF gears are plastic and wear over time. I had mine completely rebuilt as a local camera repair shop for just under $300.00. Now its better than new.

->> Thanks Michael. That seems like that could be the problem.
I just bought the lens a little more than two months ago from KEH and I am pretty sure the warranty is only for 60 days. I will have to call them on Monday to see what they can do.
I am a pretty worried because I am moving to Kenya in two weeks and I am afraid repairs will take longer than that. |

->> Josh,
KEH is pretty quick on turn around. Just let them know the situation. Mine only took a couple of days.
