Quick Action Super Clamp

->> Has anyone used this version of Bogen's super clamp? I need to buy a new super clamp and saw there was a new version (probably not that new, but new since the last time I purchased one).
It sounds good, but how is the release triggered? I'd love to use it on my netcam, but not if there was some way that contact from a player/puck could detach it.
Thanks.

->> Bert,
While I haven't seen the item personally, the image on the Manfrotto site looks different than the "Slow Acting Super Clamp" It looks as if it might be some kind of thumb release. Then again I might just be guessing... |

->> I have a couple of these...As Robert said, for all intents & purposes it is just a regular ol' Super Clamp. The "quick release" is a button on the bottom that will release all tension on the clamp and open it up to it's maximum. It is not easy to reach & takes a fair amount of force. Your clamp is no more likely to be knocked loose by the quick release than it is by any other mishap.
I do like the design of the tightening handle better on this new version, though--it is a 'T' handle rather than the 'L'-shaped handle of the earlier designs. Makes it easier to tighten when you're up against a wall or in a corner. And finally, some unsolicited advice--you CAN tighten a Super Clamp too much. It will snap in half. |

| ->> Thanks. It looked like it would save my hands some from new nets on the tightening, but didn't want to wind up with one I couldn't use. |

| ->> +1 on what Matt said - I cracked the lower jaw on a Super Clamp by just over tightening it on a railing in a HS gym. The thing split in half, rendering the it totally useless. This was the model with the "L" tightening lever. |

->> I do not buy the "L lever" clamps any longer. I have broken off the "L" handle on a couple over the years.
Nowadays, it's the smaller handle clamps and a small channellocks. |

| ->> I can't find them for sale anymore, but I have a couple Bogen 035 superclamps which are white and have the smaller T-handle instead of the L lever. |

->> A few things -
The T handle versions are sold by Matthews and Avenger. Sponsors should have 'em or have access to them. The also appear to be a heavier build than the Manfrotto variant. I've also seen a version somewhere called "gravity cast" thart claimed to be heavier yet.
Something I read somewhere along the line would lead me to believe that the failure of clamps is a function of age and the material involved. Specifically, parts made of aluminum have much less resistance to repeated stress that iron, steel, titanium or carbon fiber and will eventually fail. Tightening a clamp with pliers, while adding security to a given installation would seem shorten a given clamp's working life. This may be one of those dirty little secrets that manufacturers don't talk about in public. |

->> Ahhh...but you can mount a Friction Arm AND a Pocket Wizard pole all on one clamp for a remote...

| ->> You can buy the "double clamp" add on for Super Clamps. I've done it to a couple of mine and have long preferred the "T" handle because if you are clamping to the side of a slightly-raised basketball court floor then the "L" handle is too long. |
