->> I just updated my member page with some shots from the California State D2 football game Saturday. Underdog Rocklin High School lost a close game after coming back from 30-10 late in the 3rd quarter.
I haven't yet taken advantage of the experience here on SS to review my work but would like some feedback if you have a few moments to review my photos of this game.
Thanks,
Gary |

->> Gary,
I think you have some decent action shots on your page. I'd say all of them could use a little bit more cropping to bring things in tighter (such as your lead image, which I like, other than the dead space on the right).
I'm not too thrilled about #3. I've worked college games where this kind of flag running occurs several times, so I feel like you could have worked this and came away with something more dynamic.
The empty stands in the background, like those in #7, are usually something to try and avoid, if possible.
One thing my editors have always drilled into my head come sectional / regional time for high school sports is that the coverage should shift to the emotions of the players and fans as opposed to the typical action shots readers have looked at all season long. These are often the last moments any of these kids will be on a field playing an organized sport, and the emotions upon a loss usually reflect this.
You made an effort to capture this emotion in 8-10, though I feel like these are shots quickly grabbed with your long glass (cut off handshake in 8) without a lot of planning.
Whenever a team is about to lose a big game at the high school level (especially if it's the team I'm covering), I'll often position myself near their bench with a wider lens near the end of the game so I can get their reactions the moment the buzzer / whistle sounds.
Hope this helps, keep it up! |

->> The action is solid but I agree with Guy, you needed to focus more on the emotion.
When it comes to the state HS playoffs, you need one or two action shots from the 1st half and then your Sports 1/ A1 photo is going to be some insanely emotional photo because its going to be there.
Thats where the story is going to be. |

| ->> Shot #7 has a powerful diagonal flow to it; crop the left side so the line runs from the holder to the ball. |
