->> An interesting controversy is brewing in the world of wildlife photography.
When it comes to wildlife photo ethics, one of the biggest sticking points with a lot of photographers is whether to photograph captive subjects, and at least identifying when one is doing so.
Now, the 2009 winner of the world's premier wildlife photo contest is coming under scrutiny for potential fraud.

->> wow. Great find. I looked through the pics that they are say are proof and seems like a stretch. It might be the same wolf and same location, but its really hard to tell. I wish people would just fess up when its a captive animal. Its still a beautiful image, however it hurts the chances of those who follow the rules and shoot wild animals.
thanks Max |

->> Pretty interesting read Max. After I moved up here, I led some photo workshops at the zoo, going behind the scenes to take photos of the animals, but prior to going out to shoot, we would have a little seminar about shooting animals in the wild as opposed to in captivity. Beyond the safety aspects of shooting wild animals, whether you took pictures that showed their captivity environment, or were able to disguise it, you never try to pass it off as a photo of a animal in the wild. That was something I picked up from either Art Wolfe or Moose Peterson way back and it always stuck with me while shooting at zoos or preserves. But some of the photos I have taken would be really easy to pass off as if they were taken in the wild. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
I still have a roll of Seattle Filmworks film......I just can't figure out how to get it into my 1D. |
