So how much snow did you get?

| ->> In central WV we have form 8-16" of the white stuff on the ground. The heating sysytem at my offices has frozen and it is about 50 degrees F in here right now! Schools are closed and my three assignments for taody are canceled since schools can not have prcatice or games in the afternoon or evening when schooll in closed in the morning. Loosing money and cold, great combo! |

->> I had 18 inches in an undisturbed area at the front of the house. Luckily for us it never became the wet heavy snow that I was expecting. Neighbor's son plowed the front and base of the driveway and I did the walk and driveway with the new snow blower that I bought Saturday ;)
I also had the generator ready and 2 extra tankfuls of gas if the power had gone out. We put on 2 gallons of chowder and baked bread bowls. Yankee method of getting the house heated and meals made without firing the boiler ;) |

| ->> I know I am in Alaska and we are suppose to have snow, but last Wednesday we had about 24" at my back door in less than a 24 hour period. That is typically what we would get during a 3 to 5 day long snow storm, and there is suppose to be more snow coming. Around this time of year we typically get 8 to 10 inches, then at the end of December into January it goes to subzero temps. On Thursday after the snowstorm, it started snowing again and was 5 below 0 at my back door. That is really weird because typically it does not snow between -15 and +15 degrees. On the other side of the mountain from me Valdez (where the ill fated Exxon Valdez left from) had close to 5 feet of snow in just over 24 hours. While the rest of the country was getting early snow falls, we really did not get much until the week before Thanksgiving. It was coming down so hard that we had whiteout conditions most of Wednesday. Most after school activities were either postponed, had schedule changes, or were canceled, which made for very interesting holiday hoops tournament shooting, not knowing when or if a game was even going to take place. I have lived in AK almost half my life and this was the most snow in 24 hours that I have seen. |

->> Pete, Clark must be pulling your leg. He should have asked if you had ever been to Illinois. The weather changes here more than you can blink you eye.
We had about 2 inches (40 miles west of Clark). More 2 come Tuesday through Friday, but they are afraid to tell us how much.
Things are looking up here. Tomorrow, if we get to see it, we will have a couple more minutes of daylight than we had today.
Don't like the weather here, blink.... |

->> I've been to Texas when it's had a storm with 3" snow and a bit of ice. The cowboys with pickups make it such that getting on the highway is pretty much taking one's life in your own hands. So, Clarke, I know what you're referring to :) .
I would gloat about the snowstorm out east since we get nasty ones like that on a regular basis, except for the fact they are predicting blizzard conditions here late Wednesday gong into Friday.
Have I said how much I dislike the song "White Christmas"?

Danny & Kent...thanks for the update from the tropics, keep us all posted on any changes.

Eric, that's 18 inches of 'global warming' to you.
Try telling that to the global warming zombies pushing this phony, trumped-up pseudo crisis that doesn't even exist. It's criminal. |

It was a quite sizable dump too; I can say that with some authority, just having got done shoveling out my driveway (and it's a long one too!). |
