70-200/2.8 non-is slowly but surelly falling apart
Primoz Jeroncic, Photographer

->> Hi guys

Until now, my non-IS 70-200/2.8 had issues with front part of lens (part infront of focus ring) getting loose. I can easily fix this myself. But lately also second part (part with focus ring) is getting more and more loose, so it feels like whole lens has something like 2mm movement.... Yeah it feels like my 70-200 is starting to be push-pull lens :)
Anyway... does anyone have any idea where screws to fix focus ring part of the lens are? I know for screws for front part of the lens, but no idea about this second part of lens.

Any help and tip would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Primoz

The link is to the parts catalog for the lens, which includes a schematic. As Luke notes there are screws under the rubber grip, which comes of fairly easily - sort of like a big rubber band.

->> Thanks guys. I know about those screws under rubber ring. But these are for front part (from focus ring to front lens), and tightening them is pretty much standard procedure with my lens. On link Mark gave (thank you very much for this, as this was exactly what I was looking for), these screws are marked as XA4-9170-309 (even though if I remember right, there are 4 of them, not just 3).
But last weekend "second" part started to get loose. This "second" part is part with focus (rubber) ring, on that parts catalog marked as YA2-2038, and I don't think screws marked as YA2-2062-000 are only one which would need to be tightened. I tried those, but it didn't look like it would help much.
So on the end, I decided to walk to service, and I hope I get it tomorrow as they promised :)
But nevertheless, thank you very much for all you help guys. I really appreciate it.

->> Nick I think loose front part is pretty much standard thing on 70-200/2.8. Pretty much everyone I know have this problem (on IS and non-IS version). For this second part, which I have problems with at the moment, I knew only one until now.
It could also be, that it has something to do with cold, since I have feelings these things get worse after each day spent out at temperatures around -15c. But I have no real proof for this.

->> Front part is easy to fix. "Fold" focus ring rubber away a bit, and on front part of it, you will find hole. Now rotate focus ring until screw appears in that hole. Tighten that screw, and rotate focus ring further to next screw. Based on this parts catalog, there are 3 screws, but based on my memory (lens is at the moment on service and I'm getting it back tomorrow) there are actually 4 screws.
There's just one thing to take care... These screws are on top/front part of focus ring. There's another hole on middle/back part of focus ring, and those screws are suppose to solve my problem (loose focus ring part), even though I couldn't do it this way.
Screws for tightening front part (infront of focus ring) are marked as XA4-9170-309 on parts catalog which Mark linked.

->> I will add to the list, my lens is falling apart as well and keep having to tighten or replace the screws. Clear nail polish over the screws helps to hold them in place a little bit longer.

->> My mistake - you guys were talking Canon and I referenced my Nikon lense. I should have paid more attention to the 70 part of that 70-200 since my Nikon is an 80-200.
