Tips needed for Cradlepoint/WT-4A transmit rig

->> Abilene High School is going to the state football championship game this weekend for the first time in over 50 years and we've been tasked to send photos from the sidelines of the Alamodome in San Antonio where it will be played.
Thanks to NPS, we've got a pair of WT-4A wireless transmitters for our D3 cameras and a Cradlepoint PHS300 and USB air card to send with. Our IT department and I figured out how to get all the devices to talk to each other and I've done a couple of test shots and sent them successfully to the FTP site.
What I would like to know is what are some of the common problems and their solutions that come up when doing something like this. It doesn't seem like the Alamodome has wifi on the sidelines which is why we're using the Cradlepoint.
Any help is welcomed.
Thanks,
-Ron- |

->> Thanks, Bert. That was my first stop on this trip when we began putting this together Monday, that story and some of the threads on the Sportsshooter board I've found have been invaluable. I was just hoping for any more advice that wasn't covered or personal experiences with the WT-4A.
Thanks again,
-Ron- |

->> Anytime you are depending on cellular data networks in a situation where there is a large number of people using their phones, it can be problematic.
For instance during the NBA playoffs last year it was very slow and not worth the effort.
During the Obama Inaugrual our photographers couldn't even connect.
At your event it could work well. That's the issue: Lots of ifs. |

->> Add to above:
Have a backup plan. Just in case. |

->> Bert beat me to it.
Do not rely on it as your sole method of transmitting quickly due to jammed cell networks. You will likely see the tests pregame work beautifully and then when the crowd gets in and the game starts you'll see the transmission speed drop to minutes per image -- if you can get them out at all.
The Cradelpoint units are great for many deadline situations but I don't trust any wireless in major crowd situations -- that's why I (and other organizations like AP and USA Today etc) run a thousand feet or more of ethernet at the Final Four because you can't trust the wi-fi signals even to a router nearby. Even if you're not relying on cellular there can be too many other radio signals flying around to trust wi-fi. |
