->> I just ordered an Epson Stylus Pro 7880 for our office and I was curious if anyone had tips regarding this printer and paper recommendations. Also we will be shipping most of our prints, does anyone have a recommendation on where to buy bulk tube mailers? Cheapest shipping methods etc.

Luke

->> You do know the 7900's are out right?? Several improvements you might want to consider before you accept that shipment. Just sayin.....I have the 9800....and have found its just not worth printing your own stuff smaller than 11x14. 8x10s are not practical to print...esp when you can get em printed at pro lab like Meridian for 1.35 color corrected, and they ship....which ends the whole packaging ordeal. Larger however are definitely worth doing yourself. USPS.com is tough to beat with click n ship...but remember inkjets arent as durable...so be careful.

->> I'm aware of the 7900. We do not get many requests for poster size prints but when we do I wanted the ability to print them in house. I don't think the extra cost of the 7900 would be justified for our needs. As for smaller size prints, we already use Dye-sub printers for 8x10’s and 5x7’s.

->> Luke I ship all my posters USPS priority mail. The tubes are free and shipping is $4.95 and up depending on where its going. Tubes come in two sizes, the larger tubes are sturdier than the smaller tubes.

As far as paper our regular posters get printed on Brilliant luster from Calumet. I've been printing on it for the last 4 or 5 years without any issues. Not what I would choose for fine art prints, but for consumer grade posters it works out fine.

->> Kodak professional is the way to go. Its stamped on the back
"Kodak Professional Paper" only....so it doesnt scream inkjet to your clients....

as for the cost differnce bet 7880/7900....in the grand scheme of thngs its pretty insignificant if you shop around on the price. Some of the "minor" add ons are well worth the upgrade...ie spindle design is different, cutter blades are redesigned...and i think that the whole matte/photo black thing is also taken care of...and that was always tha main bug with the epsons.....

->> Luke,

You have a great printer. I had one for almost two years and it's been on 24/7 and I never had a problem (knock on wood). I only use the photo black ink and had great results using Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper (260) with the caned paper profile by epson. For personal work or portraits I use Epson Exhibition Fiber paper

http://www.epson.com/cmc_upload/0/000/099/483/exhibition-fiber-paper-fact-s...

With PixelGenius paper profile built for the 7880

http://pixelgenius.com/epson/

I never had any major clogs but I do do a nozzle check about once a week if if it's quiet. Also if you have the printer in a very dry environment do a search here:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpsonWideFormat/

for some tip on keeping the printer clog free.

If you have any question don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck,
rob

BTW I second uline, they are the best for one stop shipping supplies with fast shipping
