Best Portable Hard drive that takes compact flash cards?

->> I'm looking for a small hard drive (preferably to fit in my waist pack) that a compact flash card can be inserted while I'm on site. I already have a larger Kingston My Book that connects to my laptop after ingesting the cards. I'd like to empty my cards, (unedited). Do they come like that?
Thanks!! |

->> I think this might be what you're looking for.

I've got an Epson P-4000 that I used for a few years as part of my workflow. You can ingest the cards to the device and it mounts on your computer just like an external hard drive. I really liked this over alternatives because the cards sit flush with the edge of the device when they are inserted, so there's no worry about the card getting bumped and bending pins in the reader. |

->> I have (and use) both an Epson P3000 (with an upgraded hard drive to 120gb) and a Nexto. When traveling I like to have two copies as backups so both have found a good fit. The Nexto is much, much faster but there is no screen. The Epson is really handy to review images in down time, show images to locals when I'm traveling or sitting on a plane. It has a very nice screen. Down side is that it can be a little slow to copy. The newer Epson units I hear are much faster.
If you just want fast backup and transfers, I highly recommend the Nexto (http://www.nextodi.com/en/) I think the one I have the older "OTG" or OTG Express.
BTW, if interested I have a like-new (never actually used by me) Epson P2000 I'd sell. Only problem I've found and why I moved to the P3000 is that it won't read UDMA CF cards.

->> Look at the Nexto eXtreme drives. They are FAST - 2GB card downloads in about a minute and a half. They come in 160GB - 500GB sizes.
In my limited experience with the Epson products they have been molasses slow. |

->> Hello Lisa. I asked almost the exact same question a few months back and you can read the responses here...

I have an Epson P-3000 and it's great, but the download time is slow and the battery is lacking. Perhaps they have changed that in subsequent versions, but I can't tell you for sure. The Hyperdrives look nice and I have heard good things about them.
In the post I linked to above, Bert makes some good points about flash memory and I took his advice and saved about $100 in the end by taking advantage of rebates. I guess it just depends on what your use is, but in this case, buying the cards at low prices worked for me. Good luck! |

| ->> Paul I went through 2 Hyperdrive units. Had to send the original Space to CA for them to recover wedding NEF's from back in 06. They replaced the unit with a ColorSpace unit that wasn't much more reliable. Glad that you have had good luck with yours. Maybe I just had bad hd's in mine. What brand of 2.5 hd do you use in yours? |
