Shooting football at ND

->> Hey guys, first time poster.
I'm in Chicago and headed to South Bend For Notre Dame vs UConn football on Saturday. Sidelines look awfully crowded on TV, looking for pointers from shooters that have been there. What to expect with traffic, work space etc... Any comments would be helpful

Thanks, John

->> The information in the guide is pretty accurate. You are correct that the sidelines are crowded, especially if there is a visiting band also. When you are moving between ends of the field, one side (I believe the Notre Dame bench) has a railing behind it which actually makes it a little easier to move (not climbing over team equipment, etc). You'll be issues a green photo vest made out of a terrible, non-breathable material (probably less of an issue this time of year, but they do suck - apparently mesh is a foreign concept).

After the game, there can be a fairly long wait to get in the elevators to go up to the press floor.

If you have media parking, you're still going to have a bit of a hike to get back to your car. If you don't have media parking, it's about $20 to park, and a 20 minute bus ride to get to the stadium/back. The shuttles stop running about an hour after the game I believe (don't quote me on this one). Traffic is pretty bad after the games as well.

The media work area has plenty of space and food/beverages. There is free wifi. Hope this helps, and have fun!

->> I usually arrive 4hr's early, helps with traffic and gives you some time to look around and get aquainted with the stadium and where everything is and shoot warm up's. Media Parking is about 1/4 mile away. You get your vest at the bottom of the elevator. WiFi is on the top floor of press box. College Football Hall of Fame is about 1.5 mile before you get to the stadium. Great place to visit! All the employees of the stadium are very friendly, love the midwest hospitality.

->> ND is my favorite college to shoot at, despite the sidelines being crazy-crowded. The SID folks and others are super friendly, efficient and helpful.

I'll be there today, also. Give me a call via the number on my SS page if you want to say "hey" or get some other game day help when you get there. I'll be arriving around 2.5 hours before kick-off.

I did one of the last updates to The Guide, which is still most accurate.

Like it says in The Guide, bring earplugs if you plan on shooting from the back of the North end zone as you'll be sitting with the band, and knee pads for the South end zone as you'll be kneeling or sitting.

John is correct that the College Football Hall of Fame is worth a stop if you have the time.

Looks like a nice day, unlike last year's last home game that occurred after a foot of snow, and by the end of the game, with ND losing, I and everyone else on the sidelines were bombarded with snow balls.
