->> How do I get my Mac to recognize an external mic run through the USB port? It won't show up on iMovie.

->> Go into System Preferences, click on "Sound" then the "Input" tab. The microphone should show in the list of options, click on it. That should do it...I think.

->> Robert,
Did the mic come with a disk? I'm guessing your missing the driver that is preventing you from finding the usb mic in your list.

->> with some devices on my mac book pro, for some reason, the USB port on the left side acts funny. try both sides. Go to About this mac in the apple menu: then more info under hardware: chose the USB ports. you should see your device there. if not, try moving to the other side, restarting etc. But honestly I've had better luck with mics using the audio in jack next to the headphones. that always works.

->> Robert - Sorry if you've already tried this, but are you sure the mic is turned "on" (if it has a switch)? I know my USB mic won't appear in the System Preferences or in iMovie until it's turned on.

->> My Rode mic worked like a charm when plugged into the 'mic in' jack on my macbook. Just had to turn it on and it recorded nicely in iMovie.
