Need some input on arena lighting

->> Here's the scoop, we have a minor league hockey team with a small 5000 seat arena, For the last 3 seasons I have put up lights in the catwalk using extension cords to hook into the 110 outlets which are on the opposite rail from where the lights are located. I run the about 20' extension cords up and over so they don't interfere with anything. Anyway after three years a fire marshall comes in and says they are against code. The next inspection is in two weeks, so I have some time. I just don't want to have to take them down every night.
My question is for those that use lights in an arena does anyone use extension cords? If so can you send me the name and location of the arena where you do this. If no one does then how can I hardwire them or get cords for Elinchroms that would be long enough to reach without having the extension cords..

->> When I shot in Tucson, Luke, we hired an electrician who wired the units per code. The fire marshal, to my recollection, signed off on the work. I believe you would be best suited to at least get a professional's opinion or ask the fire marshal what would satisfy the code.

->> I would look into finding an electrician in the area to consult. I asked a friend who is a licensed electrician - he said you would likely need wires run in conduit with outlets to plug the strobes into (or at least with shorter extension cords). A licensed electrician can make sure it's all up to code.

->> I have never seen an arena catwalk that did not have at least some extension cords in use.

Was the fire marshall specific about the code violation and did he have any suggestions for compliance?
