->> I was looking at my schools website today and noticed some of my images were being used on there. I never gave the images to the athletic department to use, so at the moment I am not sure where they came from.
On Monday I am going to approach the athletic department asking where the photos can from and to either take them down or pay for the images. Being they are my photos I think I have al the right in the world to do that. And before anyone ask I haven't paid for the images to be copyrighted or anything like that.
My question is how much should I say the charge for the photos are? The photos can be see at the sites below, they are the pictures in top right of the pages.

->> The images are copyrighted when you press the shutter.
Registration is another matter. |

| ->> Before you run in madly waving an invoice and demanding payment (which you probably won't get - they'll just take the photos down and likely blacklist you from future credentials), you might consider proposing a contract to provide images for their sports teams. If they have to use your team shot that is a good indicator they could use a vendor to supply images for their web and publication needs. Fill the void before someone else does! Email SS member Kevin Krows for advice as he has a lot of experience and a good working relationship with a college doing exactly what you could be doing. If you can't workout anything, then demand payment or for them to remove the images. For now, use it as a platform to negotiate a part-time job or paying internship for yourself. |

->> Clark thanks for the advice. I wasn't planning on running in crazy demanding money, although that does sound like fun.
I approached the school before the year started with a proposal to shoot for them and give them access to the images, but they said there was no money for it. The reason I was looking for a price was to tell them what the going rate is and try to work on some sort of deal from there. |

->> The difference between registering or not registering your images are that if they are registered you have a much better case and you can sue for salutatory damages (which will usually end in a settlement) if they refuse to pay.
As soon as you push the shutter your image is copyrighted.
