Suddenly search doesn't work on my Mac

->> Hi-
Been chasing this problem off and on all day--I've read & tried various suggestions from Apple's support forums, downloaded various software fixes like MainMenu and still no luck, so now I'll try posting here in hopes somebody's experienced and successfully fixed this issue.
Suddenly I can't search anything on my main Mac. Not the internal or external hard drives. I can save something to the desktop, do a search (either via 'command-f' or by clicking the spotlight icon) on the thing I can see with my own eyeballs is right on the desktop and the computer can't find it. The search function spins and spins and comes up with nothing. This is all of a sudden, too.
Thanks for any help. |

->> Have you tried doing a force quit/reboot on the finder? If not, go to the apple menu--->Force Quit--->Finder--->Relaunch.
It may help. It may not. Its worth a try though. |

->> My Macbook pro started doing the same things this week... took it to MacGenius and they diagnosed it as having permission problems. Fixed it overnight and all is working now... I couldn't move files either...
good luck |

| ->> I had the same problem as well and the reason I eas given was a glitch in Snow Leopard. This was on my MacBook Pro as well. I took it to MacNetworks and all is well. Good luck. |

->> Why don't you set up another account on the computer and log in with it and see if spotlight works. That way you could see if it is a local account problem or global.

| ->> Thanks for the suggestions--Turns out I had a physically damaged drive. Had two switch my Mac's 'brain' from one hard drive to the other one in the machine. All is well. (Knock on wood.) |

| ->> that happened to me and the Disk Utility would not fix anything due to a InvalidSibling Error... I was told the hard drive is going bad...... Then one week later, search is back and computer is working fine. Maybe it got the Swine flu? dunno, something going around |
