Gobo's

Anyone out there sell some different sizes of pre-made Gobo's? How about a step by step way to make them. I believe there is an article out there that talks about them to some level (still searching for it), but again, hate reinventing the wheel when someone has it down pat.

Thanks!

->> Hey Tim,

Are you talking about "gobos" in the true lighting sense (meaning patterns used with a focused light source), or are you talking about the more generic term many people use these days to refer to "flags" and other light cutters? An example application would help...

->> Tim,
It's pretty easy (and not too expensive) to make some general use gobos. A strategically cut piece of posterboard or matboard and some gaff tape does the trick rather well. Last year during a swim meet, a friend of mine and SportsShooter member Ryan Gibbons made a gobo to fit around the reflector dish of a Alien Bee 800 that way. He just cut a strip of black mat board to about 6"x12" or so, make two cuts parallel to the 6" border that didn't completely separate the pieces, basically created "hinges" and we used gaff tape to attach it to the dish. We did it to keep the flash from blinding a crow, but I've used the same method to create different gobos and even a snoot once.

->> Sorry....should have been more specific as I know its a widely used term. Need to make some specifically for basketball backboard remotes. It takes a little doing to make one that is just right and I was trying to cheat the photographic Gods and hope that someone had some rough designs or premade sizes for sale.

Will have to let my lack of crafting skills take over and go with trial and error unless someone has something better.

Thanks Brian for the sources. Never thought of checking at Roberts and Adorama for the cinefoil. Should have known better that they would have it.
