Update you Sports Shooter galleries through Photoshelter
Derick Hingle, Photographer

->> I have not seen anyone mention this yet, but yesterday I updated my Sports Shooter gallery for the first time using Photoshelter to automatically import the gallery images. It is a great time saver, and grabs the first ten images in the photoshelter gallery you wish to share. To use the feature select a gallery and in the left menu of the page you will see an option to SEND TO: and select Social Networks, currently Sportsshooter and Facebook are options, check it out if you haven't already.

The only downside is the images were left untitled, but the captions are imported, I love the feature saves time compared to the regular method.

->> I've been using that the past few times I've updated my SS page. It's a lot easier, just one click instead of resizing every single image. I have not tried updating my facebook though photoshelter yet, usually I just post the link to the gallery.

Btw to get the title to show up on sportsshooter, you have to use the "title" field in the IPTC metadata.

->> Aside from all the other really cool features available through Photoshelter, the SS update option was one of the icing on the cake things that sold me back when I first signed up.

Since then, Allen, Grover and all the fine folks at Photoshelter have never ceased to amaze me.

Thanks guys

->> Will, from what I can tell you have to go back to your Member page after the PS upload and hit the update button. Apparently you can add in a description but can't change any of the titles, copyright, etc. It's still a lot easier than the traditional method. Also, PS will upload the first 10 in the Gallery and not the 10 that you check. You will have to do a Custom order to get the 10 images you want up front.

->> This is a really good feature of PhotoShelter, and I've been using it for quite a while now. Workflow: Easiest way is to create a separate Gallery (can be Private) in PhotoShelter, and then you can customize the order of the images, save the order (1-10) and even tweak text in your captions. If you need a title, using Photo Mechanic, your "Object" entry in the Stationery Pad becomes your Title in PhotoShelter, and subsequently in your SS update as well. If you need to update text only, you'll have to upload your whole Gallery again, which doesn't take long because it's going from one server to another - not relying on your upload bandwidth. It also does a handy job resizing, sometimes even exceeding the SS max. spec. on some images - who knows why? But I love it. Now works for Facebook too, and even watermarks your images if you so desire.

Cheers!

- Ed.

->> I just tried PhotoShelter uploading to SportsShooter and it does work perfectly. However when you size down to the smaller size it looks to me that it needs some additional USM for that size display.

I also just tried the PhotoShelter gallery link upload to Facebook and that was also perfect.

->> I just tried it and need to work it to perfection but you can add a title via "Title" in the metadata in the IPTC fields, as Dominic pointed out. You can also add details or a description that shows up in the SS gallery by adding a description/caption in the metadata in Photoshelter.

->> Shelly, I think the PhotoShelter watermarks only work for export to Facebook, not to SportsShooter. You'd have to watermark the images yourself (a bit of a pain, but can be done as an Action in Photoshop, or there ae utilities out there that'll do it in a click or two - I'd have to go back & do some research on that - there was a good one for batch watermarking I once used on the Windows platform, or you can do it in Photo Mechanic as well and save the results to another folder).

Weird thing: yesterday the PhotoShelter Gallery upload to SportsShooter wasn't working at all for me. It said the operation completed successfully, but no update on SS. I sent them a service note, but was just wondering if anyone else had a recent issue, or is it just me? I'm going to try on another machine later today just to see if it's at my end or not.

Cheers!

- Ed.

At least I'm not alone - I was getting worried that it was something I was doing wrong or something wrong in an obscure browser setting... Hang in there everyone! The Facebook Gallery Export does work, not that it helps us SportsShooter Members who would like to keep their pages up to date... anyone at PhotoShelter listening? Bueller? Bueller?
