Comfortable dress shoes for those formal shoots

| ->> I have been doing more event shooting lately. I've seen threads recommending shoes for the sidelines, but what about more formal footwear? I need something dressy -- not Sketchers or their ilk -- that will still be comfortable after hours of standing. Any recommendations? |

| ->> Dansko shoes. They are a little "non-traditional" looking, but they are incredibly comfortable if you're going to be standing for hours at a time. They'll feel a little weird the first time you wear them, but once you get used to it your feet will thank you. They're very popular among waitstaff, doctors, etc - many professionals who need to be on their feet all day but still want professional footwear. |

| ->> depends on how dressy you're talking about. I have pretty narrow feet so I have a tough time finding shoes to fit, but I've always had good luck with Rockports, particularly the nubuck style. Depending on which ones you get, they're waterproof which is always good for photogs, even at upscale events-you never know when that's going to be important. And I find they hold up pretty well. They'll get scuffed and that but I think they do a pretty good job of still looking decent after a few years, even of constant wear. |

->> I came across a line of dress shoes called Capital (made by Rockport) about a year ago. They have padded insoles and are extremely comfortable. Macy's used to carry them.
I've worn them on corporate event shoots for 12 plus hours and my feet weren't killing me afterwards. Plus they go great with suits, dress pants, etc. |

| ->> You might take a look at Earth shoes. They are quite comfortable and have a negative heal, which helps with back issues and posture. They are at www.earth.us. I've got a few pairs. I wear them for all-day shoots quite often and don't seem to suffer from sore feet or back. I hope this helps. |

| ->> If you want actual dress shoes - Johnston & Murphy is a great shoe. Comfortable and extremely well built. Just look on their site periodically - new styles are expensive but you can pick up an old style rather inexpensively. Think of it like a tripod - you can buy a good pair that will last you a very long time or you can keep buying inexpensive pairs that let you down. |

| ->> In "dressier" shoes, I have some Bostonians, Eccos, Cole Haans. I have several of those and all are very comfortable...Bostonians are the most comfy though. I used to wear them on red-eyes because they are so comfortable. They are more contemporary but still quite professional. Eccos are the most casual of those three with a look similar to Rockports. Very comfortable but they can work with slacks or jeans. Cole Haans are very comfortable, but would fit the role of most "dressy". Good luck. Good shoes make the man. Or woman. |

->> Rockport/Capital make some comfortable shoes. I also wear Ecco. I like the Bostonians I see, but they never have my size since I only buy shoes from outlets or when they're on sale. I think I grabbed my Rockports from Macy's for $60 or so.
One of the best places to find dress/office shoes are at Nordstrom Rack. |

I have a black pair as well the white pair pictured ... though, of course, the latter never get seen after Labor Day.
I do have some sense of taste.

->> Sometimes I shoot conventions that keep me in a suit for up to 18 hours a day for four to five days straight.
Kenneth Cole makes a dress shoe with some gel in it. They also have a rubber bottom instead of leather for more traction and they are much quieter when you are trying to move across a room silently.
Cole Haan is owned by Nike and puts Nike Air in their shoes.
These two brands I have found to be the most comfortable. The Cole Haan shoe looks a lot better and has no sign on them that there is Nike Air in them. The Kenneth Cole is probably a little more comfortable and looks better with slacks and a polo.
..... Barack Obama wears Cole Haan and he is on his feet ALL day.

->> Well I personally don't know about these other brands, but I find the two pairs that I wear often feel excellent even after hours of continued wear.
I have a black pair of Croft and Barrow, and a brown pair of Duck Head (for when I'm in khaki slacks). The main reasons I like them is they have padded insoles, and in the back above the heel is padded so I don't get any blisters with them on.

| ->> I second the Ecco's but lately for some not really super dressy occasions a buddy of mine gave me a pair of All Black Converse Ref Shoes, they are black and kind of shiny leather looking shoe, They don't look too bad with black slacks... They stand out a little less than doing the David Letterman in white sneakers with slacks. They are Converse Chuck Taylor Totalflex React II. They kind of keep with the sports shooter theme... |

->> I love my Eccos. I often wear them to school and do about 2 miles of walking between classes in them. It's the best balance of style and comfort I've found in a dress shoe.
