Website versus Print Edition.

->> So I know this has been talked about before, but we had a web meeting last week in our office about what our website is and does.
I'll ask this:
"What is the relationship between your paper's website and print product? Does the site solely enhance the print edition or is it a whole entity on of itself?"
I think it's both, because there are obvious things we can do on the web that the print edition cannot do, but it furthers the dinosaur product known as the newspaper print edition.
Other thoughts?
Thanks,

->> Nick,
The answer to this question goes to the core identity of the company. What do they want to accomplish?
Media companies are capable of many diverse tasks including reporting, storytelling, encouraging public discussion, entertainment, fostering community, curating information from the public and much much more.
The website is just one of a Swiss Army Knife worth of tools that you have available to you. It needs to be approached in context of a holistic plan.
There is no checkoff list for success. Nor is there a plan that fits every community.
Long term success in this space will require brutally open minds and an enormous amount of courage.
