->> I own a MBP 2.2 Ghz Core 2 duo that I bought new in Dec. 2007. Unfortunately when I woke it up from sleep yesterday, the screen did not wake up. Totally black, but the computer is running. I did a quick apple forum search (on another computer) and found out that a lot of people have had this same problem.
It's referred to as the Nvidia issue by Apple. Even though my laptop is out of warranty, Apple will be replacing the logic board free of charge due to the faulty ceramic chip on the logic board. So if any of you out there have this MBP, you should check if you have the Nvidia chip and get it replaced before you suddenly have a black screen while attempting to send photos on a deadline.
Visit your local Apple store to find if your machine qualifies. The
fix takes 5-7 business days. I took my MBP home so I could back up everything onto an external HD, but it's off to Apple on Monday.
Cheers,

->> I've had two logic boards replaced in my MacBook Pro 2.6GHz machine due to the Nvidia problem. Now I need to send it in for the faulty SuperDrive issue (doesn't read/write DL discs well). This may have been my major issue trying to install Snow Leopard on this beast as that disc is a dual layer disc I believe.
Both times they wiped the hard drive. So make sure you have a good backup.
My MBP has been my best and worst Mac ever owned. The power and features are great but the hardware bugs are vexing. I just bought a MacBook on Ebay so I'll have a backup to use while the MBP gets fixed under AppleCare. |
