Canon Petition

->> In response to a number of suggestions that Canon should rebate Mk III users in their purchase of Mk IV equipment I am hosting a 96 hour petition.
Here's the link if you're a photographer with a Mk III focusing issue or you've had one in the past and feel that you've suffered enough. Perhaps it's time to let Canon know ...
http://www.croxie.com/Petition.htm
Read the very small page and email your response via the page if you feel led.
I've read the rules and I don't think I'm breaking any of the SS regulations (I guess I'll know pretty soon) because even though I don't post a lot here I'm always thankful for the input I can get from just plain reading. And if I have misread or misinterpreted the "laws that be" in this neighborhood - my apologies in advance!

->> David,
I noticed your html page says "the email is already set up and ready to go". Any chance you can post it so people can see the wording of your request? |

->> The Petition is a great idea, but if doesn't work, you can send a direct message to Canon, Don't buy the MKIV!! Their main concern should be Customer Service and Sales, if they neglect one, they will loose the other one. They already neglected us with the 1DMKIII, they never admitted to any problems directly, they just had recall upon recall and Firmware upgrades, these recalls and Upgrades worked for some, but not for others.
Good Luck with the Petition, I honestly hope it works and Canon steps up to the plate and helps the poor 1DMKIII users that had bum cameras. The ones that had good cameras are the lucky ones.

->> Jeff ...
The wording of my html page may seem a little ambiguous....
"the email is already set up and ready to go" refers to the fact that the email address to receive the petition responses was already set up, not that I have a prepared email ready to send to Canon. I'll do that on Monday.
Update ... there have been 43 responses so far for a total of 50 units (some have 2) ... doesn't sound like a lot until you think that most probably spent $4400.00 a piece for their Mk III's - a total of $220,000.00 in sales. And I'm sure this doesn't come close to all the units that are/were bad units in the marketplace. |

I could say "Touché!" but in so doing, I would concede your cartoon point to be good and/or clever. I don't consider it either, just insanely imaginative. |

My retailer has offered me a refund on the last one (Bless him) but what do I get to carry on working??? My local rep didnt even acknowledge the complaint I made to him three weeks ago! :-( |

->> Ladies & Gentlemen ...
It's now Wednesday evening in Hawaii and two days beyond the deadline for the Petition and responses have been trickling in.
To date there are 80 using almost 100 Mk III's and as promised in the update that was sent on Monday, I'll put a mailing together that will go to Canon execs, whose emails many of you have sent through to me. I will get that together over this weekend and send it out next Monday morning - then wait for the doorbell to ring with masked guys in black suits standing outside!
The mailbox will be gone by midnight tonight HST.
Thanks for your support. It's been interesting to garner both accolades and flames for attempting such a thing. But for the most part I've lived my life knowing that I shouldn't accept the insults or the compliments of a drunken man! To some degree I've treated this petition in the same way. Having lived for a decade in Hawaii I have found it particularly disconcerting that people who have no knowledge of who I am could be so quick to cast dispersion my way. Other than that it's been great to connect with the people on the three lists I contacted. Thanks again.
I'll be in touch with those who responded, after the weekend.
Aloha |

"dispersion" should be aspersions.

->> David,
I applaud you. I signed your petition. I am on my second Mark III, and it is a bad camera. I suggest that anyone who opts for the Mark IV, to test it once you get it, and make sure you discuss this with your retailer, and ask them if you can get your money back, or trade for a new one if you deem it as not up to the expectations that will be advertised by Canon. If you keep getting bad cameras, keep testing and returning, or buy a Nikon. I know that this is what I will be doing. I only wish that I did this the first time around. If we do this with the Mark IV, and the camera has AF issues, then that will send an immediate response to Canon. Make sure you can always test and return for exchange or cash with your retailer. And I would suggest that you buy from your local pro shop if possible.

| ->> I do find it interesting that you did receive some "hate" mail. Just because someone may have a working MK III I see no reason to cast aspersions toward someone else who doesn't. Whether or not you send a petition to Canon asking that do right by dissatisfied customers doesn't affect them in any way so why should they care? They got what they paid for. |

->> Steven, you should try to post anything negative about the MKIII on DPR... You will be called every name in the book and then some. And then some there will give you their Professional Opinion, even though they are not Professional Photographers But they own a 1DMKIII.
I finally gave up on the MKIII and Canon last year after countless Lens Issues and The MKIII I tested failed miserably!! Sold my MKIIn's and my good Lenses and the lens with the issue I sent back to the store!! Went back to Nikon for Action (I was still using Nikon in the studio) and never looked back.
