->> I was recently alerted by another photographer that one of my portraits from the Roller Derby portrait series I did is being used on a website. I contacted the site asking it to be removed. Judging by the photos and by the paragraph to the right I wanted to let everyone know that if you have shot any roller derby photos you might want to check this site to make sure none of your images are on there.

->> " Whiney Photographer "
It is this mentally that makes freelancing frustrating. Others may give their work for free, does not mean all photographers do. Any party that infringed on photographers work should be happy not to see a bill, or letter from a lawyer. Like every other product or service career, photographer need to pay bills.
I am happy Crystal took her rightful stand. The current market may be cutting editor's budget, however bills never end. |

->> I like his "Legal Crap" section on the upper right, what a scream. S/he fully admits to lifting/linking to other sites, but then says it is the responsibility of the photog/artist who's site s/he snagging it from to be properly credited.
Love the mentality - "I'm going to use your stuff without your knowledge and permission and it is not my responsibility to give you credit (after all I am essentially stealing it for my own use and if I give you credit you might find out and pull that DMCA stuff on me)."
S/he could have at least signed the diatribe "Whiney, immature blogger" |

->> I didn't word that very well, hope no one took it the wrong way. I've been the "whiney photographer" on a couple of fan sites, it would have been more if I'd not have found I was also a victim of PicApps.
Offenders that I find always get a very legal looking letter or email from me. It generally prompts pretty quick action.
Clark, it's almost the same mentality used in the Orphan Works bill. what a mess. |

->> So I guess this is along the lines of this thread.
How do you go about finding your images? Do you just look around the vast web all day or are there programs that one can use to find stolen images? |

->> Crystal and Scott...Well done. Even if his site is only down temporarily at least he's had to consider the consequences of his actions.
At least I hope that's why he took it down. |

->> Site is back up with only the message, "Needs to figure out a better way to do this..."
I guess he's learned his lesson about pulling photos off the internet. |
