| ->> I like the idea of the Imac but the screen is so shiny! I just looked at them at the apple store and it was very distracting. I tried to ask if I could hook my dell LCD to a macmini, but the old geezer sales person took offense at that said it might not work, made a rude comment and walked away from me. I hate the Apple Store. |

->> I hear ya Juliann. I love Apple products but the arrogant, elitist attitude of the the store workers here just kills me.
Next time you go, stop and get a bag of greasy popcorn from one of the vendors (with extra buter), eat it, then go in the store and touch as many monitors as you can while asking really dumb questions of their staff. "Is this a touch screen?", "Can I change the color of the compass on this one?", "Do those gears turn when I click it?", "Is that 27" from here to here?"
You can even make it a game and see how many different monitors you can touch before someone complains.
Childish, you bet, but a reason to eat buttery popcorn and irritate those elitists is always good in my book. |

| ->> Kevin, I go in there and look at what I want for as long as I want and I just ignore the store workers. I find that works best. |

Juliann,
That was the whole selling point of the mac mini when they came out, that you could bring your old screen and join mac... that salesperson was counterproductive to apple's goal of increasing users on the mac [why they keep the mac mini still]. I would call and speak with the store manager, as well as emailing the corporate offices about your experience. |

| ->> my mistake was talking to them in the first place, I just wanted to look, but they glom onto you as soon as you come through the door. I found the info I needed online. Anyone that age working for minimum wage with a bunch of college kids as co-workers needs the job more than I need the satisfaction of reporting him to his manager. I never buy anything in the Apple store anyway, I can find it cheaper online. Looks like the macmini hooked up to my dell lcd is my best bet at the moment, the shiny Imac screens just put me off. Anyone use one of those? Do you like it? I'm use to a more matte screen, not that fond of seeing myself in the monitor while I work. It's hard to tell in the store, it's very bright and shiny in there to begin with, they should have a low light room to show off the monitors. Or I could get a refurb MBP 17. Need small and compact though, once we move onto the boat space will be limited. |

->> Hi Juliann,
I've been using a gloss-screen iMac for about 14 months or so; the gloss finish does take a little getting used to but as you say you shouldn't have it set up in a bright room so it's not that much of an issue in practical terms (and the image quality is outstanding). One reason I went with the iMac is the space consideration and they take up very little room but mine has developed an issue with the monitor display and the whole thing has to go in for repair rather than just the screen which is going to be pretty annoying as it'll leave me with just a MacBook while it's in for repair. |
