->> Hello everyone. As I sit here in my office nervously watching the Yankess and Angels game I have been flipping around the web reading many blogs. I just stumbled upon Vince Laforet's blog and found him saying something very interesting:
http://blog.vincentlaforet.com
"Check Back Tonight…
Monday October 19th 2009, 7:08 pm
I’m pretty sure that this is something you’re going to want to see. I’m going to update this site just after midnight E.S.T. tonight."
Wow. What do you think it is? It is Photo Plus Expo week in New York so many announcements are coming in the next few days. Some of them big. I bet this relates to one of them. |

->> Laforet will be the guy to watch for video, but the guy everyone is really going to be watching on THIS launch is Rob Galbraith.
AF better be fixed to the level where everyone including Rob is happy with it...or the rest of the bells and whistles will be pointless for many. |

| ->> I sure hope it's a new Canon body. I've tried really hard to skip generations with my purchases and thankfully I dodged the Mark III bullet. I'm set for a Mark 4 or 5. Whatever they call it. I read somewhere that the number 4 is considered unlucky by Japanese. Either way, I'm waiting patiently. My Mark II backs could use a new friend. |

->> Info on the AF system:
http://www.usa.canon.com/dlc/controller?act=GetArticleAct&articleID=3107&pr...
"The new EOS-1D Mark IV Digital SLR camera features Canon’s most advanced Autofocus system to date. It is equipped with a newly developed 45-point AF sensor featuring 39 high-precision cross-type AF points, and an all new AI Servo II AF mode that gives still photographers the power and performance to track and focus a fast-moving subject at speeds up to 10 frames per second. With more than twice as many cross-type focusing points as the EOS-1D Mark III and a new AF sensor construction that improves performance in dark and bright light, and with low contrast subjects, the EOS-1D Mark IV has greater subject detection capabilities than any previous EOS model. "
Didn't they say that about the Mk3? :-) |

->> I really hope this helps Canon rise from the ashes. The current Nikon beat down has not been pretty. I placed my fate with Canon awhile ago when I started shooting. And never had the option to convert to Nikon when the D3 came to the scene. I also wanted to stay with Canon's EOS fast prime lenses. Really wish they could improve the flash system as well but I will be happy once I can utilize am ISO higher than 1600.
If this Mark IV performs solidly, my Mark IIn may finally be sitting idle with my original 1D. I recently have calm down in the need for gear, but if this Mark IV helps shooters make a better product and service, sweetness !
Vincent, thanks for posting the video, and all those contributing to the piece. It took over an hour for me to just reach the page, but worth the effort. |

It is considered unlucky.... but the Mark IV will be Canon's fifth digital body. The D2000 was their first making the Mark III camera number four in their digital SLR line. |

->> ""It will be available in December, retailing at around £4500.""
At least here in the UK Canon seem to be tying the initial distribution into bulk deals so the above includes a 32Gb CF Extreme (the new 60Mb/s one) and a bag. Can see the potential benefit of the card but would have thought most of the people likely to buy this would have a bag. Prices for the 5DMkII started dropping around 4 to 5 months after the launch so I am guessing the same may happen with the MkIV.
Of more interest possibly, if the deal is also offered in other countries, one dealer here in the UK is offering a £1000 trade in on the MkIII body. It does say that Terms and Conditions apply (probably that it focuses) and may not be viewed as a great deal but on what seems to have been a "turkey" for many, so potentially damaging the resale value, such a deal may appeal. |

I personally have never really been interested in anything other than still photography, but I have to say these films (this one by Laforet and Frakes' Australia piece) are inspiring, and show that this stuff might possibly be kind of fun to do. |

The D2000 was not a Canon pro body. The D2000 was simply a Kodak/Canon DCS520, with minor modifications (that really decreased the awesomeness of the camera) relabeled as the D2000. |

And some of you still feel that is OK to shoot for free or give your © away or keep signing terrible deals with your clients, the wire or newspapers?
Folks the digital world is very expensive!! Charge what is right and then some. And think before spending 7K for a camera. YOu can do pretty much the same with what you got now.
