NFL at Wembley

->> Heading over with the team this weekend to cover the Bucs' trip to London. Anyone with any NFL London experience have any useful tips to share about working at Wembley?
We've got a walk-through on Saturday to hopefully get a better idea, but figure it doesn't hurt to ask before we get there.
Looking forward to meeting any UK SportsShooter members if you'll be at the game. Feel free to ask if I can help you on the Bucs' side of things. |

Hopefully some of the problems Thomas appears to have faced have been resolved but if not then you will know the "worst case" scenario. |

->> Thanks Nigel. Had read this, and was just seeing if anything else had changed in the couple of years since...like perhaps the narrowing of the signage (though I've heard we're still behind it...not sure how far it is from the field, if it's changed at all).
A couple of off-board emails did confirm, however, how friendly and helpful the staff was... |

->> 1) It's really, really big.
2) Don't get trapped on a number 18 bus loaded with Scottish football (i.e. soccer) fans headed into Central London UNLESS they've just beaten England... in which case it'll be a very weird, but very interesting, ride. |

->> Wembley is a great stadium, there is LAN points at each end (this is a football stadium so the main work area for photographers) free wifi and the lights are good.
Photo room is just off one corner, only downside when I did the giants/dolphins game is you have to work behind the teams if you want to shoot down the sidelines.
I suggest you take a 600mm if possible, you'll need it if you shoot from the ends. |

Only when they've been drinking, so that couldn't be more than 98 percent of the time, could it? |

->> I've worked at Wembley loads of times covering football and it is really nice stadium to work at.
As others have said there are wired LAN ports around the ground and the connection is super quick - blink and files are gone. There is also WIFI connectivity which is again super quick. Both are free - you will be issued with login details when you collect your press pack. One tip though, make sure that you log off the network via your web browser before shutting down your laptop if you intend to log back on at some point as I've had problems with the system believing I am still connected before.
Wembley opens three hours before the kick-off to photographers (including the official car park) and not a minute earlier so consider that when you plan your day.
There will obviously be a fair few UK based snappers covering the game and they have a tendency to get there early and lay out monopods to save spots around the pitch (not sure if that happens in the US).
The wire room is based in the corner of the stadium but isn't massive so if you are a late arriver you might not get a bench. They normally have little lunch packs in there (sandwiches, fruit, crisps, chocolate etc...) along with tea/coffee and water. The last few times I have been they've had some hot food at half-time and full-time also. Pie's, hotdogs and wedges.
Little tip after the game if you are in the official car park, don't rush to get away as you will be sitting in traffic. Leave it 45mins/1hour when the roads should be clearer.
If anyone has any specific questions then feel free to ask. |

->> Thanks again to all who've called, emailed or posted here. Think we have a better idea of some of the behind-the-scenes expectations.
And, as far as traffic, hopefully the team buses will get us in and out, though it does sound as though we might miss some of the "ambiance" that way.
And did somebody mention pies? (and yes, I'm hoping it's the meat kind). |
