->> Came across an fascinating article about Vivian Maier and her street photography of the 50's thru 70's in Chicago because of Chicagoist.com, http://tinyurl.com/ygc23h5
John Maloof bought developed and undeveloped film at an estate sale that she had shot in that era in Chicago, and looks like some in New York, maybe Europe. A blog where some of the work is: http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/
According to the blog about 40,000 negatives, mostly medium format. Of that 10-15,000 were STILL undeveloped.
Funny, sad, scenic, historical. I could spend all night looking at these images.
Some interesting images for those that have an interest in street photography or that era in general. She really had an eye, little bit I've looked thru the blog, she was very good. Reminiscent of another recently discovered street photog, Gary Stochl. |

->> There's a special (I think it was a BBC production) called "The Genius of Photography," I believe they mentioned her, along with some contemporaries like Joel Meyerowitz. Very cool, engaging stuff.
One of the most interesting things I find in that type of street photography is the perspective. Nearly all the images are taken at belly-button level. As you know, a lower angle makes people look larger than life, and it's simply an angle we don't see every day when walking around. Great find! |
