5d video and photo story from China.
Andrew Watson, Photographer

->> I was in China in August to shoot a feature film (I mostly work in video) and as always I brought along my still camera (5d mkII). We shot most of the film on a large camera, but since we were working without permits (yea yea probably not a wise move but you gotta do what you gotta do) we decided to shoot all the city b-roll on the 5d mkII so we could be as low profile as possible. It worked out great! In either case, I wanted to share this short montage of location B-Roll I shot with the 5d mkII.

The feature film is about the virtual economies that surround video games such as World of Warcraft. There are companies referred to as "gold farms" that make real money off of virtual goods and services. I just updated my profile page with a short photo essay about the topic. Any feedback about that would be awesome, I'm still trying to find an outlet for the story.

->> Yup! I was using a Sachtler FSB 6 head (about a 1500 head) but a steady hand also goes a far way.

->> Andrew,
That was awesome. Do you by chance have any or know of any pieces that were shot using natural sound. Either with a wireless mic or a mic attached to the hot shoe? Again...great stuff. Thanks...Dan.

Your transitions between scenes was very nice. Did you use some type of filter in FCP??

Also loved the scene of you trailing the guy on the bike in the streets, how did you have your 5D mounted for that it looked very stable or did you use the smoothcam filter?

Eric

->> Eric, the transitions between the clips is a custom transition I created using old Super8mm film roll outs.

The bike shot was with my 17-35mm. I was just holding the camera out in front of my bike. I have actually shot a lot from bikes so I've gotten pretty good at it. haha. I have never played around with smoothcam filters.

Actually, I did try mounting my 5d to a mtn bike while I was in China. Here is a blog with a video at the bottom. Didnt work that well, partly because i was probably going 35-45 mphs down the hills. I used a cartellini clamp and a ball head.
