Travelling with Airport Security 2 & Antidote 2 as carry-on

->> I would like to know if any of photographers have traveled with the
Think Tank Airport Security 2.0 & Airport
Antidote 2.0 on carry-on baggage. I will be flying from New York's
JFK to Long Beach, CA, on Jetblue.
I would like to know if this is possible with Jetblue or any other
airline. I do not want to check any photographic
equipment.
Thanks

->> I've had no issues with it or other roller bags of similar size on larger planes but on the smaller jets which it seems most airlines favor you will most likely have to gate check it, really no getting around that these days.
Those flights just don't have room for anything bigger than a laptop bag in the overhead |

| ->> I have traveled with the Airport Security and the Urban Disguise 50 and once I traveled with the Airport Security and the Shape Shifter, but the Shape Shifter only fits in under the Middle Seat on a Southwest 737 and I like the Aisle Seat. You might be pushing it with the Large Backpack, but you never know until you try and if the flight is not too full, you might get away with it. |

| ->> Jeff, it all depends how you deal with the situation, last year I traveled from Cedar Rapids to Chicago on a little American Eagly Buddy Holly Plane, and the Flight attendant Gate Checked HER own stuff in order to put my Airport Security on her spot!! I traveled all summer with Southwest, and my Airport Security and my Urban Disguise 50 flew with me without a single problem, not one!! |

->> I once was able to get them to do that Yamil, it was for a National Championship game and it was a packed plane and they were saying some bags might not fit on and they would have to send them separate. So I'm about to have a nervous breakdown and luckily was able to explain to them that I really couldn't afford the risk of being separated from my gear and they took their own roller out of the storage spot for me and my bag got on.
Certainly never hurts to ask and try to explain that your bag is full of photo equipment. Usually they just say they'll handle it "carefully" as they toss it off the jetway stairs but you sometimes get lucky.
The TT bags actually are pretty sturdy and protected at least, so while gate check isn't my idea of fun, I'm okay with it when there is no way around it. |

->> John,
Last weekend I traveled back east to shoot a wedding and was in the same boat. I wasn't sure how I'd get my gear back without checking.
I couldn't get a Think Tank roller in time like I wanted, so I just carried on an over-stuffed Kelty Redwing 3100 bag and my main hauling book bag with all my gear (minus a laptop).
Both were heavy and large, but had no questions asked.
However, since they don't check carry-on any more, they do run out of overhead space and many people, on both of my flights, were forced to check their carry-on right before getting on the plane. So maybe try and get aboard right when they call your boarding zone.
Good luck. |

->> Michael,
No CEO comments...however given JetBlue's current carry on baggage policies and enforcements, for flights operated by the A320 aircraft, there is no problem flying with the Airport Security 2.0 as a 'full size carry-on' and the Antidote v2.0 as the 'personal item.'
The Antidote is 33.25" linear inches and the maximum size of the 'personal item' for JetBlue on the Airbus A320 aircraft (they have a different carry on restriction for the Embraer aircraft) is 41 linear inches.
Happy Flying! |

->> I regularly travel JetBlue with the same or similar ThinkTank combo with no problems. The roller *just* fits on the smaller plane's overhead compartment when stowed sideways.
And the proper JetBlue terminology, Steven, is "Happy Jetting". :)
Cheers,
Robert |

->> Caplin,
I prefer Virgin's old line of "Go Jetset Go." I'll be sure to tell the folks at JetBlue I screwed up their tag line when I meet with them in a few days :0)
When flying JetBlue...not to pick on them, they are the only airline that currently publishes two different carry on guidelines depending on the aircraft. When flying JetBlue always check if you are flying an Airbus A320 or an Embraer E-190. The under-seat storage and overhead bins are different sizes between the aircraft. |
