->> I have to concur; building relationships generates respect and trust, both of which are cornerstones to getting better access which *then* leads to opportunities to make unique, compelling images that those who haven't worked at such relationships look at and wonder "Geez, how did he manage to..."

My keywords in building relationships

"Please"

"Thank you"

"If you don't mind"

"Would it be a problem if I..."

But most importantly, it's finding out who the head honcho is when it comes to arranging the access I need and then

"Hi, I'm Martin and I'm shooting for - I just wanted to introduce myself and ask about protocols and so on..."

- the above is done with a handshake and a professional level of enthusiasm.

I also don't get bent out of shape when the answer to a request is "No"; if that's the case, I work to the best of my abilities in within the paramaters that have been set out - there's almost always a 'next time' :)

->> If you ever met Matt you don't even need to read his article in this month's newsletter. Because you already know where he's coming from and how he deals with people.

Having met Matt this past April and also being at one of the venue's he was instructing at the SSA in Irvine, I saw how he deals with people up close and personal. We were at a JUCO baseball game in Fullerton, CA and he was like Hanging out with NORM from the TV Show Cheers everyone there knew him. He couldn't do enough for you and if you had 1 question or a 100 he would answer them all.

If only more photographer's were like him.

Great article Matt
