I'm testing this beast tonight on a Football game (soccer to our friends in the USA) but my god does this bad boy weigh a tonne!

I think it must be an early model, how do you tell?

Either way I am looking forward to testing it out - oh and building my biceps up!

->> David,

Look at the production date code, which should be somewhere near the lens mount I think. Here's a handy website to determine when you lens was produced
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/Canon-Lens-Aging.aspx. To find out what series it is, compare the pictures here http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/index.html. I hope this helps.

->> Stephen, brilliant thanks for your help. November 1995 if you were interested (which I doubt you are). Also discovered it was an ex-Reuters lens. Is it just me who wonders what amazing things it has seen in those times?
