->> Well it's been 7 months since I was let go from photojournalism job. This past weekend I got a moral victory to cherish that makes up for the past 7 months heart ache.
Getting the 1 day notice and being thrown to the streets was hard to swallow after 6 1/2 years of hard work. Well I went to the yearly state awards banquet this past weekend (WNPA). Lets just say I did very well, I pulled in 14 awards in video and photography. I also won this years Miles Turnbull best photo photography award and 2009 photographer of the year award.
Collecting all the hardware was one thing, but hearing a person in the room say out loud "who in their right mind would lay off the photographer of the year" was priceless.
Gotta love people drinking at award banquets |

->> Jesse's experience is just one more example of newspaper's being increasingly fixated on "good enough." Excellence is a shortsightedly expensive luxury.
Look for my essay on new media coming up in the next Digital Journalist.
