->> Tim was working the first drug bust I ever photographed in 1979. I got a shot of him arguing with a cop for not letting him through the police line.
Another cop walked up and told the first cop to let him through, then said, Tim has been to more shootouts than he has. |

->> Tim was/is a character... I've known him for almost 40 years ( he replaced me as the intern the Herald in 1972 )...
What is often missed is what a gifted photographer Tim is...
Tim and I grew up at the Herald....If you consider either of us grown-up
It was a joy to read that story and I hope Tim is happy and I wish him only the best.

->> WOW..what a story. Al, loved your comment about the cop at the drug bust. Story made me homesick for the Miami I grew up in long time ago. It's not there anymore, but guys like Tim Chapman almost possess the power to bring it back. Tough, two fisted, hard drinking guys before the days of being politically correct. What fun.
BTW, the writer - Jeff Klinkenberg - was a old Miami News editor, wasn't he? |

->> I would not recommend Tim stay in there should a Cat 5 hurricane hit the keys. I provide evidence below of why he should not stay.
http://pa.photoshelter.com/c/derickhingle/gallery/Hurricane-Katrina-Damage/.../
The power of Hurricane Katrina's storm surge a Cat 3 storm with the surge of a catorgory 5.
Exhibit #1 knocked down a 100ft water tower.
Exhibit #2 See those blue boats they are as big as football fields.
Exhibit #3 See the big black barge it ended up on top of the levee 15 miles up the river from where it was docked. The barge is probably up to four football fields long.
Exhibit #4 The same barge crushed my grandfather's work boat, see the green spec under the back of the barge.
That's just a few samples of why I would not stay in a house in the eye of storm, I have seen what a cat 3 will do, no way will I be around to see it live. |
