->> My parents who live in Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro on the beach have been talking about it all week. There are no doubt hundreds of thousands partying in the streets and on the beach in Rio tonite.
Great city. There will be epic venues im sure, but they better fix up their international airport. Their domestic airport rules, but the international looks like its right off the set of an apocalyptic movie set. Im going to make it my goal to try and shoot the games. No telling where I will be in 2016, but I know the city well, can speak enough Portuguese to get around and have a place to stay.
HEAR THAT PHOTO EDITORS! Mark me down!
now im off to practice my badminton photography.

->> Brad, the Olympics have been in Australia twice, and the 1956 games were held late in the Austral Spring:

The 2000 Sydney games began in Austral Winter and ended in Austral spring:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Summer_Olympics
The proposed August dates for Rio 2016 all fall in Austral Winter.
3rd games in the Southern Hemisphere, 1st in South America, first (tentatively) to begin and end completely in Winter.
But bear in mind, "Winter" in Rio isn't quite the same as winter in Winnipeg... |

| ->> Jack, Thanks for reminding me about the others. I wasn't around for the '56 games, but I remember Sydney. I was mentally confusing South America and the southern hemisphere I think. |

| ->> Good for Rio! I'm glad it's in South America for the first time (not that I wouldn't have enjoyed having it just up the road in Chicago), as it should be the World's Games. Let's hope it helps them clean up the crime there, which dwarfs Chicago's. |

->> I'm just a Canon guy who wants a good focusing Canon camera. I'm not ever switching Nikon. I have way too much invested in Canon to ever switch and love the product.
As far as the Olympics, good for Rio and good for South America to get the Olympics.......... I'll be there with my Mark VII, maybe then, they will drastically improve the flash system as well. |
