Sardines = The Cure to Being Burnt Out.

->> DISCLAIMER: This is a good cheer thread and an encouragement that with all the crap going on in our profession, it's the little things that make it worth it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but August and September both sucked.

I was totally burnt out about work, my photos and life, but today was October 1 and a photo of a Pacific Sardine made up for the last two months.

It was a picture I snapped for this week's cover image for our annual "Wine and Food" issue. My art director and I wanted something different since it was about off-beat and strange, independent food.

We ended up with an image that I loved and more importantly, my editors and art director liked a whole lot (see link for the cover):

I got a few calls and emails about the package in general, from people saying they liked the images and stories, because it was different and neat. Definitely the best, complete set of images I've put together all year (see my member page for the rest...).

When I took the picture, it felt right, it looked snappy and it was a simple, "real" look.

I guess my point of all this is when you're at the end of your wits like I was, stop thinking about whatever it is that's stressing you out, have an espresso (I drink a few a day...) and just take some images and remember why you got into photography in the first place. It just might help you feel better.

Regards,

~ nic
