| ->> Well I searched the archives and could not find anything to help. I have an attorney that would like to purchase photos of a capitol offense trial that was tried with special circumstances meaning the death penalty. He managed to avoid death for his client and he's a very notable attorney. He's been in the media quite a bit stemming from another recent case that made national news. Anyway I was the only photographer in the courtroom for the trial and I have the only photos. He would like to purchase photos of himself during the trial. I've never sold web photos before and I'm not sure what to charge. Before you bring up PhotoQuote... I know. I'll purchase it with the sale of these photos. He wants to use the photos for his website. If anyone has sold pics for a website I'd be grateful for any advise. Thanks all! |

->> Nick make sure that is OK to use photos of the courtroom on the web for commercial usages. Some court policies could say otherwise. YOur attorney can take care of that. And the images can only reflect his face and no one else.
That said, he wants to use it on his website but how? Lots of ways of using an image on the web. It will be on the front page or buried 2 more clicks away? How large it will be display? HOw many photos?
will he attach that photo to his outgoing emails? inhouse printing, PR licensing, PDF files?
Be ready for those things in case he mentions it later.Get a contract with this attorney, to pun intended, and make sure that any 3rd party licensing is not permitted and neither is editorial usages specially now since he is making head waves.
If you do have a family you can also give him a special deal in exchange for a Living Trust or something similar.
Most of ALL dont SELL your images instead LICENSE THEM!! And remembers those attorneys do charge $250-$500 an hour for their talent.

| ->> Hey thanks Manuello, the pics will be used in a section of his website that he has other photos of him in local and national newspapers. It also has screen grabs of him on network news and cable news like CNN and MSNBC from his last big trial that went national. The photos will be used in that section. Although I believe one particular shot will be used for headliner on his website. I know I'd use it in place of the one he currently has. As far as licensing the photos, yes I'm aware of that. I NEVER sell the rights to any of my work. I usually start off with a year and if the client tries to negotiate the price I will offer more time on the license before I take real money off the table. As for the use of the photos, I was given specific authorization from the judge through a client that hired me to shoot the trial for a book they were writing and I have already negotiated with my original client to second party the photos. I'm starting off with 16 photos and they are 740 pixels at the largest by 72 dpi. I'm not sure if I should go for single pricing, package pricing or both? |

->> Nick I am dashing out of the door...
OK seems as if you gotta all pretty much under control.
PLenty of images to license $$$$$$. I would give him a package pricing for both. Also a two yrs instead of one.
Treat this as his own Nat'l adv campaign.
Just the full screen image ,the headliner, for one year should be 2K or more.
The whole package should not be less than 12K
YOU can make great money here. Good luck & make sure your website © is listed in there.
