login name vanishes on forums after several minutes of use

I used to be able to log onto various forums, and found that as long as I was connected, I was still listed under my login name.

I've recently done lots of upgrades on my computer - Microsoft vista upgrades, Firefox, and so on. I've noticed that since doing all these upgrades, while I can log on to my sites with no problem, after a while (fifteen minutes or so it seems) I get logged out, and have to log in all over again. No big deal, but it is sort of a pain.

Is this happening to others? Is it a security update, to log a person out automatically after a certain number of minutes of use? If so, how can I bypass it?

This probably doesn't belong in this forum, but I figure if it's happening to me, it might be happening to many other people, and maybe they'd like to know how to fix it.

->> Mike check to see if you are surfing anonymously. I haven't upgraded my browsers but I did notice last week that I had a huge spike in visitor traffic to my site. One ip was logged 1200 times as a unique visitor. When I looked it was someone using IE 8. I can only assume that (s)he was surfing anonymously and that my tracking cooking was being tossed.

Is there some kind of setting for anonymous surfing that now needs to be set?

->> Mike there is no login on my site. We use a tracking cookies for collecting metrics. All I am assuming is that when people invoke an anonymous session that the cookie gets goofed up. I'm bracing myself for fouled up shopping carts as a result too.

I don't know about IE8 but in FF go tools--->options---->privacy
