->> So I was experiencing the "loose sections" on the 70-200 2.8 is and read somewhere that it cost ~160 for the repair. Shipping it probably isn't cheap either. So I decided to take a chance. I figured hey if I took it apart and made something worse I could always screw it all back together and canon would probably charge me the same to fix it anyway. (maybe maybe not but it motivated me to go for it) I made alot of notes and drew diagrams as I went. I took a few pictures but mostly just drew my diagrams. Once I got to the screws in question I was amazed at how loose they actually were. Well I tightened them up and put it all back together and it was good as new or at least better than before! Here are a couple shots of the process:

->> You have some serious cajones there Joseph. I dropped $180 two weeks ago to get mine fixed. I'd never have attempted that myself. So what do you charge to fix my Mark III focus issue? LOL

->> Having attempted to disassemble a Canon 300/2.8 several years ago, I wouldn't dig into any indespensible lens again. Too much risk and Canon doesn't repair lenses that show signs of tampering.

->> mmh yea sorry about the watermarks. It was late I did go a little crazy. Next up is my 16-35! I also managed to fix the 28-135 it was actually alot harder than the 70-200. That one was experiencing a zoom that was sticking and a focus that would just hunt and never focus. Loose screws were the culprit on that one. I just can't part with close to $200 to have some one tighten my loose screws.

->> I had a 24-105 that would no longer change focal lengths, however after a tenuous hour all was well again but I was sweating bullets! I too am not sure that I'd attempt anything like that again.

->> Eric, after Obama has his way we won't be able to afford screwdrivers to tighten loose screws...

I have had two of my 70-200's already fixed for this issue. Fortunately both where covered by CPS at no cost. Canon should invest in some Loctite...
